TUTORING
GRADES K-12 Bookworm Tutors specializes in students in grades K-12. In order for students to be successful in their tutoring, a Barton student must:
Be at least 5 years old and in kindergarten.
Can speak and comprehend spoken English.
Have an IQ of 71 or higher.
Struggles with spelling when writing stories and cannot easily sound out unknown words when reading.
Can pass our Barton Student Screening.
TUTORING SCHEDULE Bookworm Tutors offers year-round, one-on-one private tutoring for students in-person and online. We offer easy online scheduling for students. Come for tutoring before / after school, weekends, and spring, summer and winter breaks.
No two students with dyslexia are the same or learn at the same pace. With private, one-on-one tutoring, lessons are provided at precisely the right pace for each student.
Barton students need at least two 60-minute sessions of one-on-one tutoring, year-round. Once a week is not frequent or intense enough for the program to “stick”. Do not start the Barton system if your student can only attend once a week.
HOW LONG WILL THE PROGRAM TAKE? No two people with dyslexia learn at exactly the same pace, so we can only provide an estimate.
If a student has classic dyslexia (also called moderate dyslexia) and has two 60 minute tutoring sessions each and every week in a one-on-one setting, it will take two to three years to complete the Barton system. So, in just two to three years, you can take a struggling student to the mid-9th grade level in reading, spelling and basic writing. This is considered adult reading level in our society.
Students with mild dyslexia may complete the Barton system a bit faster, while students with more severe dyslexia may need four to five years.
The only way a student can make faster progress is to be tutored more often. If a student can be tutored three or four times a week, they’ll complete the Barton system much faster.
TUTORING RATE A 60-minute tutoring session is $120. Payment is required at time of service. We accept personal check, debit, credit and ACH (electronic transfer) payments. Please note, Barton tutoring sessions are typically not covered by healthcare insurance.
